Relationship Between Clinical Status and Nerve Conduction Test Findings in Patients With Unilateral Hemiplegia

Prevalence of Peripheral Nerve Conduction Abnormalities and Their Association With Clinical Scores in Patients With Hemiplegia

Source: ClinicalTrials.gov · Last updated 29 Jul 2026

Brief summary (registry, in English)

Stroke-related hemiplegia may be accompanied by peripheral nerve conduction abnormalities, which may contribute to motor impairment and functional limitations. However, the frequency of these abnormalities and their relationship with clinical status have not been fully characterized. This single-center observational study aims to evaluate the frequency of peripheral nerve conduction abnormalities identified by nerve conduction studies in patients with unilateral hemiplegia and to examine their association with motor and functional clinical assessment scores. The findings may contribute to a better understanding of peripheral nerve involvement in stroke rehabilitation.

Who cannot take part

Copied verbatim from ClinicalTrials.gov and grouped by topic. Only the trial team decides who can take part.

Prior treatment

  • Concomitant neurological disorders that may affect motor function or peripheral nerve conduction (e.g., Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, encephalitis).

Other illness

  • Hemiplegia secondary to benign or malignant intracranial tumors.
  • Upper or lower extremity fracture, amputation, skin lesions preventing electrophysiological testing, or diagnosed peripheral vascular disease.
  • Contraindications to nerve conduction studies (e.g., cardiac pacemaker or inability to safely undergo the examination).

Other

  • Bilateral hemiplegia.
  • Inability to cooperate with or tolerate nerve conduction studies.

Who the study is looking for

  • Adults (≥18 years of age).
  • Unilateral hemiplegia secondary to ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, or intracranial hemorrhage.
  • Ability to undergo standardized nerve conduction studies and clinical assessments.
  • Provision of written informed consent.

Age in the registry: 18 years to - · Sex: All · Does not accept healthy volunteers
