Development and Evaluation of a Disease-oriented Scenario Game to Promote ACP Among Older Adults and Family Caregivers

Development and Evaluation of a Disease-oriented Scenario Game to Promote Advance Care Planning Among Older Adults and Family Caregivers: Heart Failure as an Example (Part 2)

Source: ClinicalTrials.gov · Last updated 20 Oct 2026

Brief summary (registry, in English)

Current advance care planning (ACP) tabletop games mostly focus on exploring "personal values." While a few explore care preferences through "hypothetical scenarios," they are not disease-oriented, which can create discrepancies between the scenarios or medical treatments and the patient's actual condition and may fail to capture the patient's true preferences. A systematic review found that disease-oriented ACP interventions effectively capture patients' and their families' preferences for medical treatments because they closely reflect the patient's actual disease progression. However, no disease-oriented scenario games are currently available. Therefore, this study, using heart failure as an example, aims to develop and evaluate the impact of disease-oriented scenario games on older adults and family caregivers in ACP.
